Michigan's One-Call Utility Notification Organization
Ticket Notification Print
In order to focus the delivery of tickets on only the locations where a member has underground facilities, the member will need to provide MISS DIG with a “Notification Type.” MISS DIG has 3 different notification options from which a member can choose. The member can select just one, or any combination of the following options. “Place Notification” is the default option while “Grid” and “Polygon Notification” are most commonly used for identifying facilities that are long and narrow, such as transmission pipelines or fiber optic routes. However, grids and polygons are also useful for identifying isolated facility locations, such as rural utility companies, water and sewer authority lines, school or college campus property, hospitals, and industrial complexes.

PLACE: Members with “Place Notification” will receive all tickets for any County and Place (City, Township or Village) that is listed in their database. Members who have only “Place Notification” do not receive tickets based on girds or polygons. They receive the ticket based solely on the County and Place name shown on the delivered ticket.

GRID
: A member with “Grid Notification” will only receive the ticket if any part of the work area that is drawn on the Ticket Entry map, touches any part of a grid which the member has designated in their database.  Grids are measured as ¼ minute of latitude and longitude or approximately ¼ mile by ¼ mile in size.

POLYGON: A member with “Polygon Notification” will only receive the ticket if any part of the work area that is drawn in the Ticket Entry map, touches any part of a polygon which the member has designated in their database. Polygon buffer sizes are provided by the member.

NOTE: As a default, any ticket that is generated without grids or polygons will be sent to all members when the work location matches a member’s County and Place Notification Database, regardless if the member has grids or polygons in their database.

Members who are interested in gridding the location of their facilities, or members who wish to modify their existing grid selection, should call the MISS DIG Member Services Department at 800-482-7161 for additional information.
